"A STAR OUTFIELDER"
Richard J. Whitehouse
Crawford Street, East Falls

"Whitey" Whitehouse was a star outfielder on the Roxborough High School baseball team and talked about becoming a Philadelphia policeman. He worked as a shipping clerk at Fidelity Bank, Broad and Walnut Streets, after graduating from Roxborough in 1966. He was drafted into the Army in September 1967, trained to be a military policeman and was assigned to the 560th Military Police Company in Vietnam. The 21-year-old specialist four died on July 3, 1969, in the accidental explosion of a hand grenade. He was survived by his mother and two brothers.

Let us not forget Specialist Four Richard James Whitehouse, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service, SP4 Whitehouse served our country until July 3rd, 1969 in Phuoc Tuy, South Vietnam. He was 21 years old and was not married. Richard died from an undetermined accident. His body was recovered. Richard was born on June 10th, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

SP4 Whitehouse is on panel 21W, line 057 of the Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.
