Thiroway, a
1966 Northeast Catholic High School graduate, worked at the old Philco
Ford plant at C and Tioga streets before enlisting in the Army in
October 1967. He was a military policeman with the 545th Military
Police Company of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Thiroway died
on May 19, 1968, at Camp Evans in Hue, Thua Thien Province, when he was
hit by fragments from an exploding booby trap while trying to save a
wounded buddy. The 20-year-old private first class was survived by his
mother.

Let us not
forget Private First Class Patrick James Jr Thiroway, casualty of the
Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service, PFC Thiroway
served our country until May 19th, 1968 in Thua Thien, South Vietnam.
He was 20 years old and was not married. Patrick died from an
undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. Patrick was born on
March 26th, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
PFC Thiroway is on panel 63E, line 015 of the Veterans Memorial Wall in
Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
