On November 25, 1968, at the age of 19, Jerry died of a fatal wound suffered when his sidearm discharged while being cleared.
A Memorial Service was held on November 30th in a chapel set up in the Capitol BEQ, where he lived.

Seventeen days later I was born, Charles G. Stanley (Jerry to some, now Chuck to most).

Let us not forget Specialist Four Charles Gerald Stanley, casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Stanley served our country until November 25th, 1968 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 19 years old and was married. Charles died from accidental self-destruction. His body was recovered. Charles was born on February 21st, 1949 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

SP4 Stanley is on panel 38W, line 063 of the Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 2 years.
