Suspect Info: Convicted of manslaughter
Officer Rickman was shot and killed after he and his partner responded
to a domestic disturbance call. The officers were in the process of
arresting the woman's ex-boyfriend when she came to the door with a
handgun. The woman claimed the gun went off accidentally. The round
passed through Officer Rickman's left arm and entered his chest through
an opening in his vest. He was transported to a local hospital where he
succumbed to his injuries a short time later. The suspect was convicted
of manslaughter and received a ten year prison sentence.
REFLECTIONS
Although I never knew Officer Rickman, I felt I did because of how
other Officers talked about him. Everyone spoke very highly of this
fine man and COP.
Officer Rickman made the ultimate sacrafice for Roanoke. Thank you
Officer Rickman for everything you did.
