Darrel F.
Matthew, born Sept. 6, 1920, to Eldon and Lowie Matthew in Beccaria
Pennsylvania, the eldest of 4 children, died unexpectedly on April 21,
2000. Darrel served in the US Army for 27 years, retiring as Sergeant
Major in 1972. He was a longtime member and much involved in activities
of his church, Immanuel Presbyterian in Tacoma. His wife, Elizabeth,
preceded him in death in February, 1998. Survivors are daughter,
Patricia Freeberg and husband, Walter; grandchildren, Steven Freeberg
and wife Lisa, Theresa D. Fields and husband Richard, Kenneth Freeberg
and wife Cathy. Also surviving are his brother, Basil Matthew and wife
Harriet of Buffalo, New York; and 11 great grandchildren, Alison, Erik,
Gretchen, Liesl, Hanna, Marta, Jessica, Amelia, Nathan, Alyssa and
Trent. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April
26, 2000, at the New Tacoma Cemetery. A memorial service at the church
will be held at a later date. Remembrances in his name may be made to
the church.
