OBITUARY FROM THE FAYETTEVILLE OBSERVER

NEWHAWKA, Neb. - Former Fayetteville Police Chief Harvey E. Keator died Saturday, July 31, 2004, in St. Mary's Hospital in Nebraska City.  He was 82.

Mr. Keator was police chief in Fayetteville from 1973 to 1976 and in Milledgeville, Ga., before retiring in 1985.  He was an Army police officer from 1940 to 1972 and served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Newhawka United Methodist Church by the Rev. Samm Johnston.  Burial with military honors will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  Arrangements are being handled by Marshall Funeral Chapels of Nebraska City.

Mr. Keator is survived by his wife, Linda Keator of Newhawka; three daughters, Maureen Stapleton of Carrollton, Texas, Kathleen Keator of Renton, Wash., and Ghislaine Byrd of Kenly, N.C.; a stepson, Scott Anderson of Plattsmouth, Neb.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
