PFC Cook came right from MP School at Fort Gordon, Georgia to the 188th MP Company. He was first assigned to discipline law and order patrols.

In June he was reassigned to duties restricted to the company area. On the morning of 15 July 1971 when his his room mate tried to wake him he discovered him dead in his bunk.
