EDWARD BRAKENRIDGE

SUISUN CITY -- A funeral for retired Col. Edward K. "Jim" Brakenridge,
76, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship with
the Rev. Larry Vilardo presiding.
Col. Brakenridge, a 31-year veteran of the U.S. Army, died Thursday,
April 12, 2001, in David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base
after a brief illness.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., he lived in Green Valley 28 years. He
served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, Korean and
Vietnam wars. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was
held prisoner until the end of the war in April 1945. He retired from
Treasure Island in August 1974. Among his many decorations, he received
a Prisoner of War medal, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat
Infantryman's Badge, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster,
Meritorious Service Medal and Legion of Merit.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Wilda Brakenridge of Green
Valley; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Alfred Kirkwood of
Springfield, Va., and Teri and Dean Urbain of Fairfield; and
grandchildren, Susan, John and Keith Kirkwood of Newark, Del.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bryan-Braker Funeral Home.
