PFC JAMES P. BOYD, JR.
21st Military Police Company
Killed in the line of duty on October 31, 1973.
PFC James Boyd's watch ended while he was acting as the shift
sergeant's driver when an armed
robbery occurred at a post exchange
filling station. PFC Boyd and Sgt. Ralph Romero were driving down
Highway 24 (Bragg Boulevard) when they encountered the suspects coming
down a hill. PFC Boyd shot one of the suspects but was immediately shot
and killed. It is unclear whether it was the suspect he shot that shot
him or whether it was one of the other suspects. When the suspects
tried to drive away in the military police jeep, Sgt. Romero who had
been ordered to the ground, jumped up and fired seven shots into the
back of the jeep killing at least one of the suspects.
