BARABAS-Andrew E. (Ed), Lt. Col, retired, passed away on Sunday, February 29, 2004, in Hobe Sound, FL, where he had moved from Islip, NY. He was 91. He was preceded in death by wives Regina (Brown) and Marilyn (Russo/Vichlenski). He is survived by sister Elsie, daughter MaryAnn and her husband Bob, step-daughter MaryAn and her husband Matty, step-son Peter and his wife Cathy, step-son Arthur and his wife MaryAnn, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Holding Reserve Commission since 1934, he entered the regular Army in 1941 and retired from active service in 1954 at which time he remained a reserve officer while starting his second career as Counselor for the New York State Employment Service. A patriot whose service took him to Germany, Japan and Korea, he was recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern, Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bars, UN Service Medal and ROK Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars; past Vice-Commander of the Islip American Legion; Islip Chapter, Knights of Columbus; Vice President of Former Troopers Assoc., Long Island Chapter, from his early work as a New York State Trooper and Vice President of the Islip Chapter, AARP. He was a great patriot and cautioned us to always stand ready to defend our glorious flag, a symbol of peace and democracy wherever she waves.

Mass in Hobe Sound will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, 11AM at St. Christophers Catholic Church, 12001 Southeast Federal Highway (at Bridge Rd.).
